Interim Sri Lanka head coach Sanath Jayasuriya has disclosed that the Sri Lankan cricket team is receiving assistance from the Indian Premier League’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) to gear up for their upcoming T20I series against India. Jayasuriya revealed that Zubin Bharucha, the Royals’ director of high performance, has been instrumental in helping the batters prepare for the 3-match series.
The T20I series between Sri Lanka and India is set to commence on July 27. Jayasuriya, a legendary figure in Sri Lankan cricket, has assumed the head coach position on an interim basis as the team seeks to reverse their recent fortunes in the T20I format. The team faced a disappointing group-stage exit in the 2024 T20 World Cup, leading to captain Wanindu Hasaranga stepping down from his role.
Jayasuriya emphasized the importance of leveraging external expertise to strengthen the team’s performance. “We are grateful to Zubin Bharucha and the Rajasthan Royals for their support. This collaboration has provided our players with valuable insights and techniques that will be crucial in the series against India,” Jayasuriya said.
Sri Lanka’s preparations for the series have been intensive, focusing on addressing the weaknesses that have plagued their recent performances. The collaboration with RR is part of a broader strategy to enhance the team’s competitive edge and ensure they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
As Sri Lanka gears up to face a formidable Indian side, the team and their supporters are hopeful that these efforts will translate into a successful series. The first match will be held on July 27, followed by the second and third T20Is on July 29 and July 31, respectively.
Cricket enthusiasts can expect a thrilling series as both teams aim to showcase their skills and gain momentum in the T20I format.
